The
following chart illustrates general run-timing of Great Lakes
Steelhead, Trout and Salmon. It should be noted that many variables
will effect fish run timing and the progression of migrations.
Factors such as water level, temperature, water flow, Great Lakes
water level and the presence of other species, will influence
the runs of fish.
Also, some
strains of fish have adapted to individual streams and rivers.
These fish will have their own schedule on the timing of their
run for that particular water. Neighboring streams may also have
slightly different timing, this is especially true in environments
with naturally reproducing fish.
As the chart
illustrates, the Great Lakes have a year-round fishery. It can
be difficult to locate migratory fish during the summer months,
but the native fish are available. In the summer, the native
brown trout fishery is great and you will even find opportunites
for native rainbow trout on many tributaries.
